In the praecipe, JS requested the clerk issue an to be served by the Hancock County . The details of the case are unclear, and it is unknown if the clerk received the praecipe and issued an execution. This type of procedural information was typically recorded on the verso of legal documents, but the featured photocopy of the praecipe includes only the document recto. Other than the praecipe, there is no documentation regarding the case in extant Nauvoo mayor’s court, Nauvoo Municipal Court, or Hancock County Circuit Court records.
