Richards also made copies of this order. In addition, he wrote what might be an early draft of JS’s order to Greene. It read: “Complaint having been made to me on oath that a mob is preparing to make an attack upon the citizens and city of Nauvoo. you will therefore make the proper requisition to keep the peace of said city. according to law.” (JS to John P.
