State of Illinois, , ss, I, , clerk of the municipal court, in and for the City of , in said , do certify that Joseph Smith, whose signature appears to the foregoing deed, and, who is personally known to me to be the person described in, and who executed the same, did acknowledge that he had executed the said conveyance for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. Given under my hand and seal of court, this 25 day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four.

This Indenture made and entered into this eight day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three between and Eliza [Moses] his wife of the county of Hancock, and State of Illinois of the one part, and Nancy Hamilton of the county of Hancock and State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth, that the said and Eliza his wife for and in the consideration of the sum of fifty dollars to them in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, do hereby grant, bargain, sell, convey and confirm unto the said Nancy Hamilton, her heirs and assigns forever, the following described peice or parcel of land, and bounded as follows, commencing at the South West corner of lot two, in block fifteen in addition to Nauvoo, running six rods East, thence North two and three fourth rods, thence West six rods, thence South two and three fourth rods to the place of beginning. Together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining, to have and to hold the above described premises unto the said Nancy Hamilton her heirs and assigns forever. And the said and Eliza his wife their heirs and assigns the aforesaid premises unto the said Nancy Hamilton her heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever do and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In testimony whereof the said and Eliza his wife of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.
