Nauvoo City Treasury Order
Summary
In March 1843, the municipal government of prohibited the issuing of the local paper currency, or . Nauvoo city treasury orders then replaced Nauvoo city scrip. Unlike the printed city scrip, treasury orders were handwritten by the city treasurer and included names of individuals to whom they were issued as well as specific monetary amounts to be redeemed from the city treasury. Treasury orders were apparently sometimes referred to as “city scrip” since they served as its replacement.
