I know Mc.Lain [George McLean] & [George] Seabold I never told them that I was to get $500 for swearing in this case— I have had conversation with them about this matter. I never told them that I did not know who killed the Smiths. I have been offered $2500 not to appear I do not know who they were who offered the money I never have seen them since. it was when I lived at — this was before the last term of the Court— it was in in 3d street— they met me in the street— they asked me who I was— I told them. & they offerd me the money— they were young men— not grey headed ordinary size— only saw them a minute— They told me their business— showed me some money $1000 in bond in 500— money— if I would not appear here at court— only saw them a minute this was about noon— dont know what time of day it was— It did not worry me much. I though[t] it was a good deal of money to offer a man— I did not take notice now they were dressed— It was not very cold weather. I dont know whether they had hats or caps on— I wheeled around & went off— but give them to understand I would not take it— [p. [19]]
