Monday the 17th day of June 1844, about 7 o’clock P.M. Lieutenant Gen Joseph Smith issued orders to Col , then acting Major General of the in the absence of Brigadier General who was at that time on a mission in the State of , who was Commanding officer of the Legion, under Gen Jos Smith after Major General had been cashiered, as before mentioned, to call out the Legion, in the best possible manner for defence at 8 o’clock A.M. next day to meet at the Masonic Hall and also issued orders to Col , commander of the Lieut Genl Staff to assemble at his quarters immediately all of which was done
Tuesday June 18th. 8 o’clock AM. the Legion assembled according to the above order and the line was formed at 9 o’clock AM. under Major Gen , The first Cohort under the command of Col , acting Brigr Genl The Second Cohort under Col acting Brigr Genl. After Lieut Genl Joseph Smith took command, the Legion by his orders marched to the mansion House and was there addressed by Genl Smith for about one & a half hours the Legion then returned to the Masonic Hall again and continued on duty through the day, with a short inter mission at noon,
After Genl Smith returned home he gave orders that he receive all his communications only through his aids, the proper official channel This evening Generl Smith appointed General Armorer Armorer General of the Legion.
June 19 Wednesday. Legion met as on yesterday. Col then acting Brigr Genl 2nd Cohort and continued their organization.
