John Bills to Joseph W. Johnson For pt. L 2 B 154
this Indenture made and entered into this Twenty first day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and forty one, between John Bills and Elizabeth [Scott Bills] his wife of the county of and State of , of the one part, and Joseph W. Johnson of the county of and afforesaid, of the other part Witnesseth, that the said John Bills and Elizabeth his Wife, for and in consideration of the sum of one Hundred dollers, to them in hand paid, the recipt whereof is here by acknowledged, do hereby grant, bargain, sell, convey, and confirm unto the said Joseph W. Johnson his heirs and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of Land Situate and being in the county of in the State of , viz: beginning at a Stake 30 feet from the North West corner of Lot No. 2 (two) Block No 154, <​No.one hundred and fifty four​> in the city Plot of running thence East 20 feet on Water Street thence South to the street on the River parralel with the West End of said Lot, thence up the River to a Stake and corner of a Piece of Land Deeded to Thence North to the place of begin<​n​>ing. Together with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in anywise appertaining To Have and To Hold the above described premises unto the said Joseph W. Johnson his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Bills and Elizabeth his wife their heirs and assigns the aforesaid premises unto the said Joseph W. Johnson his heirs and assigns against the claim or claims of all and every person whomsoever, do and will warrant and forever defend by these presants In Testimony Whereof, the said John Bills and Elizabeth his Wife of the first part, have here unto set their hands and seals, the day and year above written.

I a Justice of <​the​> peace in and for the said do certify that John Bills and Elizabeth his wife whose signatures appear to the foregoing deed, and who are personally known to me to be the persons described in, and who executed the same, did severally acknowledge that they had executed the said conveyance, for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. and the said Elizabeth having been by me made acquainted with the contents of the said Deed, and examined separate and apart from her said husband, acknowledged that she had executed the same and relinquished her dower to the premises therein conveyed, voluntarily, freely, and without compulsion of her said husband.
