hundred ($100) dollars on or before the first day of August next (1844) with the interest that may accrue thereon from this day, (Nov 1st. 1843) in manner particularly specified in a certain Note or obligation bearing even date herewith executed by the said to the said , Then & from thenceforth these presents & every thing herein contained should <shall> cease & be void any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding. In witness we have hereunto set our hands & seals this first day of November A. D. 1843 L. S. Betsey Green L. S State of Illinois, , ss. I a Justice of the peace for the City of in said do certify that & Betsey Green his wife whose signatures appear to the foregoing deed & who are personally known to me to be the persons described in & who executed the same did severally acknowledge that they had executed the said conveyance for the uses and purposes therein mentioned. And the said Betsey Green having been by me made acquainted with the said deed & examined separate and apart from her said , acknowledged that she had executed the same & relinquished her dower to the premises therein conveyed voluntarily, freely and without compulsion of her said . Given under my hand & seal this first day of November A. D. 1843 Alderman of the City and acting Justice. L.S.

Know all men by these presents that I and Phebe [Cole] his wife of the County of and State of have this day for and in co[nsi]deration of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid by of the and afforesaid have granted, bargained, and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the s[ai]d his heirs executors & administrators a certain lot or peice of land, lying and situate in the & afforesaid, it being described as follows, to wit: beginning at the South-east corner of Lot forty two in Block five s addition to , running thence North on the line twenty four rods, thence West four rods, to the center of Bagby Street, thence South to the South line of said Block, thence easterdly to the place of beginning be the same more or less. To have and to hold the above described premises or lot of land with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said his heirs and assigns forever. And the said and Phebe his wife do for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators, forever warrant and defend the title to s[ai]d lot or peace of land against all lawful claims whatsoever.
