Be it remembered that on the second day of August in the year One thousand eight hundred and forty two William Thompson and personally appeared before me Joseph Smith, Mayor, and one of the Justices of the peace in and for the City of , aforesaid, and jointly and severally acknowledged themselves to owe the City of the Sum of thirty Dollars, to be levied of their Goods and Chattels, Lands and Tenements, if default be made in the condition following, to wit:
The Condition of this Recognizance is such, that if the above bound William Thompson shall pay all Costs incurred in a Case wherein Judgment was this day given against him by and before said Mayor, for disorderly Conduct, and indemnify the Corporation against any Charge, and also keep the peace, and be of good behaviou[r] towards the Citizens of this , and generally, and especially towards ; <​for one year;​> then this Recognizance shall be Void: otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue in Law.—
