Gregg edited the Message from January 1843 to February 1844. It served as a temporary replacement for Thomas Sharp’s Warsaw Signal, which operated before and after the Message. Both Gregg and Sharp were critical of the Latter-day Saints and the growing economic and political power of Nauvoo. While Gregg favored lawful approaches to the perceived problem, Sharp advocated extralegal solutions.
