<1> Sunday Aug 1, 1844, <All> The Quorum of the 12 who were expected <2> here this season with the exception of Elders & have arrived. (T&S. 487) them.”
<2> The minds of thousands are already prepared, (T.&S. 495) &c &c, an account of the fooleries & lies which have been trumpeting forth. from the diffret [different] Presses in the
<5> Thursday 5th, Letters from , state that there are more or less baptized every week. There was been a gen Election of members of parliament last month, and serious ritots riots in differ[en]t parts of the kingdom between the whigs & Tories.
<7> Saturday 7. My brother died at his residence in , this morning at 20 mi. past 2 o’clock in the 25 year of his age.
A confrence of the church was held at , Iowa and the branches in was as far as representd, consisted of 750 members and adjourned to the 9 in[s]t
<9> Monday 9. The Steam boat Erie was burned on Lake Erie, 30 mil from & 8 from the American Shore. 200 persons on board & 175 <persons> perished.
The funeal of Bro was attended this day, by a vast concourse of friends & relatives. He was buried with military honors, having at the time of his death the office of Brig Gen of the 2nd Cohort, . He was also Prest of the High Priest Quorum & Editor & publisher of the Times & Seasons, and was universally beloved by his numerous acquaintances. His attachment to the cause of truth was immovable.
The conference continud, & was addressed by Elders & particularly on Temperance. and met again on 10 Tuesday the 10, and was addressed by & on the build[in]g of the in , and closed with a geneal addres from .
<10.> <The department of English Litrature & Mathematics is in operation under the derction of Professor .—>

Letters from various parts of and Scotland show that the numbers are daily added to the church; <while> shipwrecks (T&S. 598) railways, betoken the coming of the son of Man.
