I told after it <​the Book​> was written of the mistakes <​it contained.​>— In speaking of it I have said that after they shot Smith, the men stood there— In the first placed he <​​> halloed to them to come back and carry these four men off, or <​that​> the Carthage Grays would be upon them— they came back picked them up, and carried them off— dont know how many men it took to carry each of them away— I went to Scott’s that night— dont know his first name— had been to Scott’s before— The night I Staid there I commenced a conversation with Scott about it— <​but​> he told me he did not want to know any thing about it— I did not tell Scott that I had assisted in killing Smith— I went home next day. Dont know whether any other person staid at Scott’s that night <​or not—​>— I went to sleep— they were up all night— never told any person there or elsewhere that I had helped to kill the Smiths, or to hold the guard— [p. 32]
