there— When the men came up there was a Scuffle between them and the guard— some of the guard fired, but no one was killed— Some some of them scuffle and got down on the ground, and continued to lay on the ground until the Smith’s were killed— dont know whether any one was hurt in the scuffle <​or not.​>— after it was all over I Saw one man with his arm bleeding— dont know who it was— did not know him I judged from the way they scuffled, that some must be hurt— Saw some go in the door of the jail— they had guns— might have been a half a dozen— did not know who they were— Saw the Carthage Greys when they were approaching— They did not approach until it was all over— I was there perhaps 5. or 10 minutes before the Greys<​—​> The first I Saw of the Greys they were marching up perhaps within 30 steps, the mob was then gone perhaps 100 yards— I was 1/2 mile or 3/4 when I first saw them coming— dont think it was those I saw off that first got to the jail, as I left my horse at
