4 Aug. 1811–6 Jan. 1862. Steamboat owner and captain, farmer, mayor. Born in Flintshire, Wales. Son of Thomas Jones and Ruth. Married Jane Melling, 3 Jan. 1837, in Denbigh, Denbighshire, Wales. Immigrated to U.S., ca. 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1843. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spring 1843. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Operated steamboat Maid of Iowa between Nauvoo and Montrose, Lee Co., Iowa Territory, 1843–1844. Served mission to Wales, 1844–1849. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, 1849. Moved to Manti, Sanpete Co., Utah Territory, by 1850. Presided over Wales mission, 1852–1855. Moved to Provo, Utah Co., Utah Territory, by 1860. Died in Provo.
