Reynolds, Thomas
Biography
12 Mar. 1796–9 Feb. 1844. Attorney, politician, judge. Born at Mason Co. (later Bracken Co.), Kentucky. Son of Nathaniel Reynolds and Catherine Vernon. Admitted to Kentucky bar, 1817. Moved to Illinois, by 1818. Served as clerk of Illinois House of Representatives, 1818–1822. Served as chief justice of Illinois Supreme Court, 1822–1825. Married Eliza W. Young, 2 Sept. 1823, in Fayette Co., Kentucky. Served as representative in and speaker of Illinois House of Representatives, 1826–1828. Moved to Fayette, Howard Co., Missouri, ca. 1829. Served as representative in and speaker of Missouri House of Representatives, 1832–1834; as judge of Second Judicial District of Missouri, 1837–1840; and as governor of Missouri, 1840–1844. Committed suicide in Jefferson City, Cole Co., Missouri.
