<s trial defered> <Court adjned> <July.> <1> Monday July 1st. 1839 I spent principally in counselli[n]g the breth[re]n. This day also the cou[r]t was called for the trial of & the prisons brethn in prison at , but as they were not ready. <for trial all their> on accout of the absence of their witnesses <had been banish[e]d the , &> the cout was adjod [adjourned] to the 23 of septr
<visit to .> <2> Tuesday 2 spent the forenoon of this day on the side of the . Went in Co with , , & & , & others to visit a pu[r]chase lately made by the as a location for a town, and advised that a town be built there <and be called >.
<Confene of the .> P. M. met with the Twelve & some of the who are about to proce[e]d on their mission to Europe & the nations of the earth, & Islands of the Sea. The meeti[n]g was open[e]d by singing & prayer. X (J.s Jl 6, 7) circumstance
< bapd.> <3> Wednday 3d I Dr & him at the water’s edge, & about 2 hours after him to the office of . P. M I was engaged in dictating my history.— About this time the wrote the following Epistlee “To the Elder <X (T&S, 12, 13, 14 15) form [from].>”
< & [Morris] Phelps escape from p[r]ison> <4> Thurday, 4 I dictated history. To the To show the situation the prisoners at Columbia I quote from s “Persecuti[o]n of the Saints” “Msrs [Laura Clark] Phelps, , & Mrs Phelps Bro. come from on horseback and visited with us for several days. On the 4[th] X (P. 164, 165, 6, 7, 8, 169) Freedomd
Mr Phelps made his escape also, but was retaken & carried back. contin[ue]d in the prison. he had apostatized, & turn[e]d traitor to the others.
<5> Friday 5 I was history dictating, history. I say dictating, for I seldom use the pen myself. I always dictate all my communications, but employ a scribe to write them.
<6> Satuday 6. I was at home reviewing the Records &c, &c.—
<farewell of the .> <7> Sunday 7[th] I was at the Meeting held in the open air X (J. Jounal. 6, 7, 8,) &
<Selecting Hymns.> <8> Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 8th 9, & 10th I was with the selecting hymns, for the purpose of compiling a Hymn <Sickness commencd.> Book. about this time. X (Js Journal 9) others had not. [p. 61]
