Landed in , <on the 1st day of the 11th. year of the church,> after a tedious passage of 28 days, 16 of which they encountered head winds, & one severe storm of 3 or 4 days, and a great portion of the time the decks were coverge [covered] with water, all of which ten[d]ed to create sea-sickness, & suffering.

In the Times & Seasons of this month is a prospectus for publishing at a weekly paper, to be called “The News”
To all people (X T&S. 86. 87) clerk— To[o] poor <feeble> <emaciated> was at this time, from his long sickness & journey that when returned home, this day, from a Mission to Clithero, & found him in his room he did not know him.
<12> Sunday 12[th.] Several of the Elders bore <their public> testimony to the Gospel at the Temperance Hall as The High council of met at my house, when I proposed that Bro go East with , to settle some business transactions of the church, which the counsel sanctioned, and voted “that prest. Joseph Smith Jr make the necessary credentials for & .”
<13> <Monday> From the 2[nd]. of October 1839 to this date there has been 145 shak[e]s of Earthquake in Scotland, reported by Mr Milne to the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Some of these shocks were sufficient to alter the natural levels of the ground more than 2 degrees & some witnesses thought 4 degrees, and cause houses to rock like boats on the seas
<14> Tuesday 14 A council of the Twelve, viz. , , , , & was held at the house of in , Eng. when was ordained to the apostleship agreably to the Revelation By , under the hands of the Quorum present. Other business was transacted, as also on the following days all which may be seen [p. 7]
