He concluded his address by calling upon the saints to take courage and fear not, and also told that inasmuch as he had seen the mercy of the Lord exerted in his behalf that it was his duty to arise and stand in defence of the truth of and of innocence and of those who were being persecuted innocently and finally called for all those who were willing to support and uphold Joseph and who believed that he was doing his duty and was innocent of the charges &c to hold up their right hand whereupon almost every person present was seen with their hands elevated and their countenances beaming with joy. Afterwards he said if there were any who were opposed to Joseph and would not defend him let them manifest it by the same sign but there was not one opposing witness.
It is evident that this meeting was productive of great good and if there was any treachery and secret combinations of evil and designing characters present, the discourse was calculated to show them their true situation and danger and it is very probable would be the means of bringing them to their senses. The whole congregation appeared highly delighted and strengthened by the circumstance and seemed to be inspired with new zeal and courage. During the day went over to s and conversed upon various subjects and it is evident he intends to arouse his energies and stand in defence of the truth if Satan do not again darken his mind and fill his heart with evil. has also signified his intention of coming out in defence of the truth and go to preaching [25 lines blank] [p. 167]
