<14> At home thro the day— in the evening the Assembly room was filled <by the brethren> when my views of the powers & policy of the Govt. of the was <again> read. I afterwards spoke on the same subject at considerable length.
I insert the following from the T. & S. “Who shall be (439 <Vol 5>) to— Joseph Smith”

The Anti-Mormons held a convention at ; the object being to devise <ways &> <the> means of<by which><in order to> <of> expelling the Saints from the . Among other resolutions was one adopting appointing the 9th. March next as a day of fastingand prayer, wherein the pious of all orders are requested to pray to Almighty God that he would speedily bring the false prophet, Joseph Smith, to deep repentance for his presumption and blasphemy, or that he will make a public example of him and his leading accomplices.”

TEXT: Grimshaw originally wrote “devise means of espelling the Saints” which he then changed to “devise the means in order to expell the Saints”. Later, Thomas Bullock inserted and canceled text in graphite to revise it to “devise ways & means of expelling the Saints”.
